Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best gene combination in Rust?
The optimal genetic combination for most plants in temperate biomes is GGGYYY (3 Growth, 3 Yield). This provides the fastest grow time while maximizing resource output.
How does crossbreeding work in Rust?
When a plant crossbreeds, it looks at its up-to-8 touching neighbours in the planter. For each of the 6 gene slots, the game sums a weight for every neighbour's gene — red genes (W, X) weigh 1.0 and green genes (G, Y, H) weigh 0.6. The winning gene type only replaces the plant's own gene when its summed weight is strictly greaterthan the plant's current gene weight. Unlike some older calculators, there is no alphabetical tiebreak: the game resolves ties randomly.
